If you can't find your question, please let us know and we'll answer it in e-mail and add it to the FAQ.
You can get your email either by logging in and using the pine command or you can setup a POP3/SMTP mail client, like Eudora.
To setup a mail client, such as Eudora, use the following parameters (substituting your account name for where it says username):
SMTP Mail Server: Get This From Your Dialup Internet Service Provider
POP3 Mail Account: account and server name, i.e. username@he.net
POP3 Mail Password: your account password
Return Mail Address: account and server name, i.e. username@he.net
If you'd like to have your mail redirected to a another e-mail address, create a plain text file called .forward in your home directory containing the destination e-mail address.
Yes, you can install your own mailbot. An example can be found at:
http://www.westnet.com/providers/mailbot.pl
One other little point we should mention, just in case you are new to Unix mail handling: your mailbot is invoked by creating a .forward file in your home directory containing a line like the following:
/home/youracct/mailbot.pl /home/youracct/mailbot.txt
This assumes your mailbot is at /home/youracct/mailbot.pl and yourmessage is at:
/home/youracct/mailbot.txt
Remember, this is just an example, and mailbot scripting is covered under the same guidelines as CGI script development; development or debugging of your scripts is not included with a Self Serve account.
Yes we do require an off site email address (a friends will do) where we can reach you.
MEANING 1: POP
As in: Do you have a POP on the east coast? Or: I live in Santa Clara. Do you have a POP near me? Or: What is your nearest POP to San Diego?
In these cases POP stands for Point of Presence and refers to the nearest phone number that somebody can dial to access the Internet. This assumes that we are a dialup Internet access provider, which we are not.
The only way to access our servers is over the Internet and that we do not offer dialup accounts.
MEANING 2: POP
As in: Do you have a POP/SMTP mail server? Or: Can I get my email with a POP e-mail client like Eudora?
In these cases POP stands for Post Office Protocol and refers to the protocol used to get e-mail from the server by e-mail clients like Eudora. By the way SMTP (which stands for Simple Mail Transport Protocol) is how e-mail clients like Eudora send mail.
Yes! There are just a few guidelines.
Yes, this is possible. You can install mailbot on our system. However, you will have to provide the mailbot. Alternatively, you can run shell scripts in response to getting mail.
Since you provide your own mailbot there is no charge.
We are currently looking into this. The fee will be very competitive. We also have arrangements with third-party mailing-list maintainers and can manage a high-quality list for you.
Yes, although not every e-mail client can handle it.
Generally, attachments work best between people that correspond frequently and test it out first.
A listserv is an automated mailing list program.
Create a text file called .forward in your home directory containing the destination email address. For example, youracct@somewhere.com
If you have a Econo Virtual Host Account or Business Virtual Host Account there is a way to forward several email addresses using a .virtualmail file.
Yes. It's the eight character or less word that after the tilde "~" in your URL. It is also your email address. If your account name is rflyer, then depending on what server your account is on your e-mail address would be:
retailer@dss.he.net
or
rflyer@thor.he.net
You can do this by combining the following products:
The best way to find out how to do this is to contact VirtuFlex. You can reach them at www.virtuflex.com
