ftp Tutorial for PCs

Your's should have most of the fields empty. You'll recall in the sample new account email it said:

Here is your account:
 
Account: rflyer
Password: xk23fj4
Machine: atlas.he.net

Here's where we'll put that information:

1. In this box you're not really required to put anything. We just put the name of person who the account belongs to.
   
   
2. This is where we put what machine your account is on.
   
   
3. Set this box to "Automatic Detect."
   
   
4. This is where your account name goes.
   
   
5. Enter your password in this box. It will show stars instead of what you're typing. That's to prevent someone from looking over you shoulder and finding out your password.
   
   
6. You can leave this box empty.
   
   
7. If you like you can check "Save Pwd." That will save your password so you won't have to enter it every time you use ws_ftp. If you share your computer with someone else you may not want to check that. Make sure that you DO NOT check "Anonymous."
   

Now you're ready to connect. Click on "OK." You'll see a window that looks something like this:

In the left hand side window is the contents of your computer. On the right hand side window is the contents of your home directory on our server.

First you should locate the file you want to upload from your computer. Navigate through the directories on your PC in the righ hand window, find the your document and click on it.

Now you'll need to change to the public_html directory in your account. It's in the right hand window. Double click on it.

This is similar to what you should see:

Now click on the button with the arrow pointing to the right that's in the middle of the window. Your document will be uploaded and appear in the right hand side window. Here's how it might look:

Congratulations! You've just uploaded your first file. Now all that's left to do is click on "Close" to disconnect from the server.
